Top 8 Searches on Google this month in Anime

Ohayo, Anime-niacs! Here’s a brief rundown of the top 8 anime topics for this month. Peruse the list to see what’s hot in the genre and what you might want to check out next.

  1. Furry Fandom. First on the list are folks who like to dress up as anthropomorphic animals. Can it be weird? Yes. The weirder, the better, some say! But what’s not to like about combining the best of human and animal qualities? Try dressing up as your favorite animal or animal-evolved character for your next con!
  2. Parasyte. This one is definitely worth a watch and a read. Parasites attack earth, entering people’s minds through their nose. Shinichi Izumi, however, prevents his parasite from taking over his mind. It lives in his arm instead and together they fight the rest of the parasites invading humanity. The manga had a 7-year run from 1988-95. There are two live-action movies and an anime series called Parasyte – the maxim.
  3. Black Clover. Following Atsa, a non-magician in a world of magic, the Black Clover manga and anime is a shonen-style (for guys) story about this young man as he seeks to become the Wizard King with his powerful Anti-Magic abilities. The manga is published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The anime premiered last fall.
  4. Anime Boston. The Anime Boston convention is coming up March 30th-April 1st. Stay tuned here for all the news coming out of the various cons worldwide.
  5. Sailor Moon. I’m not sure what this one is. Just kidding! The newest hype is about the “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Miracle 4D” show at Universal Studios Japan. It’s a 4D short movie playing from March 15th-June 24th. If you’re not in Japan, keep your eyes peeled for where and how you watch it.
  6. ERASED. Satoru Fujinuma is a young man with the ability to travel back in time and prevent horrible events in the lives of those closest to him. Based on a manga and anime, you can watch the new live-action series on Netflix.
  7. Ghost in the Shell. Major Motoko Kusanagi is a cyborg police officer with a cyberbrain. Follow her and Public Security Section 9 in manga, anime, video games, and last year’s live-action movie starring Scarlett Johansen.
  8. Your Name. A high school girl in rural Japan swaps bodies with a high school boy in Tokyo. Your Name is an original anime film with drama and humor, first released in 2016. It is the 5th-highest grossing non-English movie worldwide. So, yeah, it’s worth checking out. And keep your eye out for news of the J.J. Abrams’ live-action adaptation.
